Evolution of Swag

by Andy Warner on March 26, 2009

I want to thank everybody for the support and the messages that you have left on my posts.  The love is really appreciated.  In this post, I’m going to pose a question to the masses.

Now, I believe in evolution.  Not the evolution that men came from apes or that a million years ago a giraffe was a horse, but the evolution of the mind and of one’s swag.

In 1st Corinthians 13 it states, “As a child, I thought as a I child. I did childish things. But as a man, I thought as a man and put away my childish things and have done away with my childish ways.”

Now, I think that a man’s swag, as far as fashion, needs to evolve.  Men need to stop dressing like kids and evolve your fashion swag.  When I was in high school and college, I wore throwback jersey’s, baggy jeans with cartoons on the back pockets and t-shirts at the club during the winter months.  It’s funny seeing brothas wearing a t-shirt with a scarf in the club or baggy pants with stones going down the back of their leg and they’re 35 years old.  That, in my opinion, is wack!  If you’re not attending a game, why are you wearing a jersey?  Why are grown men rocking Jordans like they’re in high school?  Why are brothas rocking Timberlands all year around?

In my opinion, once a man turns 30, certain things in his wardrobe should change.  Trade in the zirconia extra baggy jeans for a loose or relaxed jean.  Replace the white tee with a polo.  Switch the Timberlands in the summer months for a pair of loafers.  The evolution of your swag depends on it!

Let me get this right, 30 right? Hmmm, I had better reconnoiter! Like that, reconnoiter? It’s just one of the words that flow!
Definition: to explore an area in order to gather more information, especially about the strength and positioning…

Funny but true. Just don’t ever let it evolve to the point of black socks and sandals.

I am a conserative fashion guy so my style does not have to change. I am not too fond of parents trying to be kids. It is not the clothes that are really the problem. It seems to indicate the mind set might not be right.

I can say the same applies to fathers. The swag must be adjusted immediately after fatherhood IMO. Maybe you could do your take on that subject, I would be curious to see your thoughts.
